Transport in transition – Case Neste
Finnish company Neste is a leading provider of advanced biofuels with production units in Porvoo (Finland), Rotterdam and Singapore. The company has an extensive experience of sourcing a large number of different second generation feedstocks. Kaisa Hietala is Executive vice president, responsible for the renewable products business area, and will give an overview and share Neste’s experience in the field.
Eric Sievers, Pannonia Ethanol, Hungary:
Expansion of Europe’s largest biorefinery in changing EU biofuels policy
Europe owns Pannonia Ethanol, Europe’s largest biorefinery, in rural Hungary. Opened in 2012 it now produces 450 million liters per year of bioethanol and supports more than 2 000 jobs. Before Ethanol Europe, Eric was an infrastructure lawyer and banker and financed the construction or acquisition of more than 5 billion liters of biofuels and 10GW of power generation. Pannonia has so far refrained from investing in advanced biofuels. Eric Sievers will explain the reasons for this strategy and his critical views on EU biofuels policy.
Patrick Gruber, Gevo, USA:
Replacing mainstream fossil based transportation fuels, and their GHG emissions, with commercially viable alternatives
Dr. Patrick Gruber is the Chief Executive Officer of Gevo and has served as a director of the company since 2007. He is a visionary, a revolutionary scientist, and a transformational leader, He received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Minnesota in 2011. This award recognized his work in the development and commercialization of green chemical production processes, his contributions to industrial biotechnology, and his ability to identify and act on business opportunities. Patrick Gruber is an advisor to the Energy Future Coalition.
