ABC 2021 – spotlight on cellulosic ethanol

Biofuels – bioliquids, and green gases – are essential in the global effort to replace fossil fuels and reach the Paris Agreement goals of limiting global warming to well below 2 ^oC compared to pre-industrial levels. As businesses, industries, and societies begin a green recovery in a post-pandemic world, the demand for transportation fuels is expected to rise. Advanced biofuels, and renewable synthetic fuels are together with conventional so-called first-generation biofuels an important and reliable climate-neutral part of the solution, available today – and viable for tomorrow.

With six sessions over two days, the conference will showcase the latest developments and insights in European and international policy, the transition from fossil to renewable fuels and new technologies, investments and partnerships. Leading companies will present solutions with current and new production of advanced biofuels.

Clean combustion and the future of combustion engines

Session 5 “Clean combustion and the future of combustion engines” will feature amongst others a representative from Axens, an IFP Group company and a leading international developer and supplier of a complete range of solutions for the conversion of oil and biomass to cleaner fuels, for the production and purification of major petrochemical intermediates as well as for gas treatment and conversion options.

The renewable conversion technology portfolio includes processes such as “Atol”, “Polynaphtha”, and “Vegan” to enable production of HVO and biochemicals from bio-feedstocks. Axens have also commercialised “Futurol”, an enzymatic conversion and fermentation process to produce cellulosic ethanol from biomass residues. Croatian oil and gas company INA has a license agreement with Axens to supply its Futurol technology to its refinery in Sisak.
