Last day of World Bioenergy dedicated to sustainable bioenergy trade

World Bioenergy 2012 launches Sustainable Bioenergy Day, dedicating 31 May to the development of a sustainable bioenergy market. Sustainable Bioenergy Day is a unique event, built around the coming global standard on Bioenergy ISO 13065 – Sustainability criteria for bioenergy. The event aims to highlight the various sustainable issues and development possibilities from all continents and for all stakeholders.

Six final candidates for the World Bioenergy Award 2012

The six final candidates to the World Bioenergy Award 2012 are now chosen.
One of them will be announced as the winner on May 29 at the opening session of World Bioenergy 2012 in Jönköping, Sweden. This is the second time that the World Bioenergy Award is presented.

The aim of the World Bioenergy Award is to recognize an individual who has made a difference: a business leader, politician or researcher who in a crucial way has furthered the development of the bioenergy sector.

Confirmed speakers from 32 countries from all continents

World Bioenergy is truly a global event. There are confirmed speakers from 32 countries from all continents, and a couple more may be added in the coming days. An example of the many speakers from outside Europe is Abbas Almodares from University of Isfahan in Iran. He will speak about bioethanol production from dried sweet sorghum stalks.

Swedish Skogforsk to Collaborate with Itasca Community College in Minnesota in area of Woody Biomass Fuels

Today it was announced that the Forestry Research Institution of Sweden, Skogforsk, will enter into a joint collaboration with Itasca Community College (ICC) in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to develop an applied research program focused on developing effective methods, systems and technology within the forest-based bioenergy supply chain in Minnesota.

Afternoon tea-view about World Bioenergy attracted 86 diplomats from 45 countries

The traditional World Bioenergy tea view on 26 January in Stockholm was attended by 86 diplomats from 45 countries. The event gives an outlook on the development of the global renewable energy markets as well as a presentation of the World Bioenergy 2012 conference and exhibition.

Over 200 abstracts from all continents to World Bioenergy

– We have received more than 200 abstracts covering all aspects of bioenergy development, says Lena Dahlman, responsible for conference planning at Svebio.

– The most inspiring aspect of the result of our call for papers is the wide geographical range of submissions. We have received abstracts from a record 39 countries, from all continents. India, China, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kenya, South Africa, Canada and Colombia are just some examples of countries represented. This shows that World Bioenergy is truly a global event, attracting interest from all parts of the world.

Pellets 2012: study visit to Hässelbyverket fully booked

Study visit 1 to Fortum, CHP ”Hässelbyverket”, 31 January is now fully booked. 

It is still possible to register for study visit 2. This tour will demonstrate a local heating system with an annual consumption of 350 tonnes pellets.

Sweden is already close to reaching the 2020 goal of 50% renewable energy, almost 10 years before the deadline.
Chief Executive Officer of the Swedish Bioenergy Association Gustav Melin champions the nation's role in leading the change to renewable energy.

Svebio, the Swedish Bioenergy Association, and Russian Energy Agency (REA) have signed a cooperation agreement. The purpose of the agreement is to exchange experiences and cooperation concerning bioenergy, and open up channels for increased cooperation between Swedish and Russian actors.

Svebio (The Swedish Bioenergy Association) has teamed up with The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota (BBAM) in the U.S. to jointly contribute to the increased use of bioenergy in the state.

Greenbuild International Conference and Expo is the World’s largest expo and conference dedicated to green building. The event is arranged by the U.S. Green Building Council, the organization behind the certification system LEED, together with the Canadian Green Building Council. Greenbuild is a great marketing occasion for almost any company in green construction, from architects and material suppliers to renewable technology companies.

“Jönköping is the world’s bioenergy capital!” The assessment sums up the World Bioenergy trade fair and conference held from 25-27 May 2010, and was made right at the start of the event by Miguel Trossero of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization.

Bioenergy more than nuclear and hydropower combined

For the first time in recent Swedish energy history, in 2009 the use of bioenergy was larger than use of electricity from nuclear power and hydropower combined, according to statistics from the Swedish Energy Authority and Statistics Sweden. Most of bioenergy was not electricity, and some might say the comparison is therefore unfair.
