Swedish Government supports historical turn towards bioenergy from forests and fields


The Swedish Government's Commission on Oil Independence has presented it's final report on June 28th 2006.

The Commission has workd during spring 2006 to identify strategies and specific actions to break the dependece on fossil oil. In it's final report the following targets and conclusions are suggested:

  • raised energy efficiency in the whole society with a least 20 %
  • 40-50 % reduction in the use of petrol and diesel in road transoports
  • 25-40% reduction of the use of oil in the industrial sector
  • no use of oil in heating of buildings in residential and service sector
  • a centre for energy efficiency is suggested, with the task of initiating and evaluating measures of increasing energy efficiency as well as reporting to the government and parliament on the energy efficieny in residential, transports and industrial sector
